Adrienne arrived earlier today and is taking her nap now. Boy, that girl can sleep, even on an airplane. She's very thin but otherwise looks well. She had another fall a few days ago and her knee is a bit swollen and scuffed but hopefully it isn't serious. She's also itching again. The itching doesn't indicate how much disease she has but it's usually a sign that something is growing. We were just hoping for a little break. But leave it to Adrienne, she's looking at graduate schools now. Stay tuned. Our big event during her visit is seeing Elton John on March 21. I can't wait.
My mother in law had another fall last Friday, breaking her hip and shoulder. She's home now with Curt's brother taking care of her, but obviously, we're all very concerned. The cancer isn't bothering her so much but she's in a lot of pain from the breaks so we're still taking things a day at a time. My mother's husband also had heart surgery a few weeks ago and has had a tough recovery. It's so hard when your parents get old, you know it's going to happen, but still it's tough.

Adrienne was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in 1996 at age 9. She had multiple relapses, two bone marrow transplants, and a range of chemos and radiation therapies, and passed away on October 1, 2009. We are heartbroken.

- Adrienne was very much like others with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, the most common cancer in teens and young adults. What was unusual is that she had it for more than half her life and ultimately, it took her life. Hodgkin's is curable for about 80% people, but Adrienne was one of the 20% for whom a cure was elusive. She considered herself lucky since treatments had been there for her with each relapse but she ran out of treatment options and her body just couldn’t take any more. As she said, "Though I’ve now had cancer for most of my life, I no longer plan my life around it; instead, I try to plan cancer around my life." We hope you can take inspiration from her and how she lived her life.

Welcome home Adrienne! Sometimes home is the best medicine in the world. I bet your mom will help you gain back the weight you lost with some nice home cooking that only a mom can do.
I am sorry to hear about the itching and your recent fall. I am hoping that you will enjoy a nice, relaxing Spring Break with no medical drama. You deserve it.
Elton John! Are you kidding? I am so jealous!
And grad school....hey, if anyone can tackle that one, it's you Adrienne. What is your major now?

Rest, relax and heal . . . I hope you have a great time together, and that the rest of the family heals along with you. I think your extended family needs a breather as much as Adrienne does.

Glad you will be home with the family for a week Adrienne. Hope you get to do lots of resting/eating/shopping while u r home. Elton John...that will be an interesting show! Hope you all enjoy it.
