Yes, Adrienne is really stressed about school right now as she rushes to get her thesis done by the due date on April 27. After lots of discussion yesterday with her thesis advisor, she decided to make some changes, which hopefully will alleviate some of the stress. She sounded better last night although she's very, very tired. In addition to thesis, she has other classes that need her attention. The good news is that she'll finish on May 6 and will come home for a little before graduation. Seniors finish early so that grades are in before commencement.
May will be a busy month for us. Adrienne has an appointment with the cardiologist in Miami on May 28 and we're hoping to get a little vacation in at the same time. As for treatment for her Hodgkin's, we'll have to see how her scans are next week. We're hoping she can take all or most of the summer off. Except for some shortness of breath on exertion, she's feeling pretty good and was able to do yoga yesterday.

Adrienne was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in 1996 at age 9. She had multiple relapses, two bone marrow transplants, and a range of chemos and radiation therapies, and passed away on October 1, 2009. We are heartbroken.

- Adrienne was very much like others with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, the most common cancer in teens and young adults. What was unusual is that she had it for more than half her life and ultimately, it took her life. Hodgkin's is curable for about 80% people, but Adrienne was one of the 20% for whom a cure was elusive. She considered herself lucky since treatments had been there for her with each relapse but she ran out of treatment options and her body just couldn’t take any more. As she said, "Though I’ve now had cancer for most of my life, I no longer plan my life around it; instead, I try to plan cancer around my life." We hope you can take inspiration from her and how she lived her life.

I'm sure Adrienne's thesis will be well-accepted. She's putting her heart and soul into it...just like she does to everything else in her life. What day is graduation at CMC? Rich and I went to Miami for a few days as part of our honeymoon trip 36 years ago...I'm sure it's even more built up and lively now! As always, everything will be crossed that the treatment is being successful and the scans will show improvement. A vacation from school, work and meds sounds wonderful : )

i totally agree with susan, if adrienne is doing the thesis, it will be fabulous! here's to an upcoming break and vacation full of rest and fun. and a visit to the cardiologist that is full of wisdom to help adrienne.
