Fungal infection?

I spent most of the day Friday looking into Adrienne's CT to see what it means. There are so many new nodules in both lungs that I didn't think it looked like Hodgkin's. The concensus is that this is probably a fungal infection along with disease progression, but perhaps not quite as much disease progression as first thought. The only way to be sure is to do an open lung biopsy and everyone agrees that it would be too risky. Adrienne is starting an antifungal medication today and we'll continue to watch closely.

We're always the gang hoping for infection rather than disease, but in this case, it's a mixed bag as these types of infections are difficult to treat and can last for months. Until the infection is gone, we can't treat the Hodgkin's, and there's a chance that this will get worse before it gets better. At the first sign of fever, we'll be off to the hospital to have her admitted. We're hoping that her pain, which is getting worse, will get better as the infection resolves.

Jeez you guys, sounds scary. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that this will resolve quickly so you can start beating back the disease.

Hoping life is relatively "normal" otherwise...

Big Hugs, Chris

Hoping, hoping, hoping that all of this resolves smoothly, without hospital admission and without any discomfort. What a time for you guys - really hope you both get to enjoy at least some of the summer without all of this worry hanging over you........love and hugs........Vx

Hey there,
A fungal infection isn't great news but it is treatable with the right drugs and time... I think you know Eric's has pretty much resolved thanks to the voriconazole. He's still on it - like you say, it's a very long treatment.

The trick is that you can never be quite sure what is fungal and what is disease - we still don't know. We expect it was fungal because the symptoms disappeared and the spots did not progress did fade somewhat.

Big Hugs - it's always something...

Yikes, been away from the computer for a while, so I'm coming late to this news.

Hope that you've settled on a plan to combat the infection.

Thinking of you, of course . . .
