Adrienne had a lot of trouble breathing overnight so they moved her to ICU this morning. I'm updating from my Blackberry. She's been on and off BIPAP and they drained one effusion but they're all over. She's comfortable now but the breathing issues are really frightening for her and for all of us. The pulmonologist said its unlikely that she'll survive this but we're still trying. I told them to intubate if needed because I don't want her struggling and afraid.
If this turns out badly, I hope no one will say she's in a better place or out of pain. She wants to be home with her family.

Adrienne was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in 1996 at age 9. She had multiple relapses, two bone marrow transplants, and a range of chemos and radiation therapies, and passed away on October 1, 2009. We are heartbroken.

- Adrienne was very much like others with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, the most common cancer in teens and young adults. What was unusual is that she had it for more than half her life and ultimately, it took her life. Hodgkin's is curable for about 80% people, but Adrienne was one of the 20% for whom a cure was elusive. She considered herself lucky since treatments had been there for her with each relapse but she ran out of treatment options and her body just couldn’t take any more. As she said, "Though I’ve now had cancer for most of my life, I no longer plan my life around it; instead, I try to plan cancer around my life." We hope you can take inspiration from her and how she lived her life.

Well you know what I say to docs telling you that you are going to die.. Adrienne is a fighter. Tell her we are praying for her and we love her bunches, and to hang in there. Im always thinking of you guys and if you need anything let us know. I know we are across the country and all, but we will do anything you need!

Any time anyone has ever told me something was hopeless, as a history buff I think of Washington and his army suffering through that terribly long winter at Valley Forge. I think of how little chance anyone would have given the fledgling United States of surviving at that moment, let alone becoming the country we are today.
Maybe this is not the best analogy, but it is one that always has given me hope that even what may seem hopeless may simply be that darkest hour that comes right before the dawn.
Keep fighting the good fight.
