PCP Pneumonia?

Apparently, Adrienne's scan shows what looks like PCP pneumonia. This is a serious opportunistic infection that affects people with severely compromised immune systems. This can be difficult to treat but they're trying with everything they"ve got.On the scan, it doesn't look like more lymphoma. The plan now is to treat it for 24 hours and then reevaluate. If she hasn't improved significantly by tomorrow, she'll start the Rituxan. Right now, she's on BIPAP for 4 hours at a time with a break on the 100 percent oxygen mask. She's eating an english muffin right now for breakfast and we might try the hair washing cap later.

Some people have asked why its so hard to figure out what's going on. One thing I've learned over the years is this is how it goes. Things change on a day by day basis and bodies react in different ways. They're doing everything right and she's getting the best care possible. This is just what happens sometimes when the cancer gets more aggressive and widespread.

pneumonia is scary. but i am hoping that since the docs are aware of the particular cause that they now can target it better. hoping for the best outcome possible and understanding that it's one step at a time.

hi adrienne and alison! that english muffin sounds tasty. glad to know the junior gourmand is eating! (i used to have english muffin with butter and jelly almost every day when i was in high school -- amazing stuff).

and good that they're throwin' everything but the kitchen sink at that pcp pneumonia. here's hoping they don't have to intubate but hope it helps if they do. also hoping she tolerates the rituxan.

as always, my wishes and prayers for you two fighters.

Pneumonia is how I started my Hodgkins journey. The symptoms eventually led to a chest X-ray. All the best to you. Hang in there.

I hope adrienne is doing better today. Believe it or not, I have spent all day today memorizing drugs to treat PCP pneumonia and other respiratory problems for a pharmacology test I have tomorrow. It really puts everything into perspective to hear what you are going through. I wish you all didn't have to go through this. Sending good thoughts.
